Right now I am in the middle of reading To Dance with Kings by Rosalind Laker, which takes place at the royal court of Louis XIV. This book is historically accurate in covering the king’s mistresses and the social status they hold at court, as well as the contrasting life of the peasants living right outside the palace walls of Versailles. The story begins with a mother’s vow to give her daughter a better life by scheming to make her a mistress of a member of the nobility when she comes of age. I was hooked from the first few pages. If you love history or just appreciate a good romance, this, so far, has been a terrific read.
